BAD TO THE BONE
(left) Janet Wright- convicted felon and master of the art of layering (attention to jeweled brooch and fur stoll). Convicted February 1922, for performing illegal abortions in her home.
(right) Lindsay Lohan- modern badass and fashionista in her own right. Arrested July 2010 for violating the terms of her probation by failing to pass a court-ordered drug test.
Dating back to the 1920s, women have always found an element of glamour in misbehaving. Women of Janet Wright’s generation would dress up in fur and diamonds and pose for their mugshots as if it were a modern day red carpet, while the Lindsay Lohan’s of today would much prefer snorting coke off of a Chanel classic flap bag rather than a dirty toilet seat. Is it possible that these women are to blame for our inexplicable desire to misbehave? Is there a part of us that always wanted to be the girl smoking in the high school bathroom, the same way we hoped to one day fit into our mother’s Louboutins?
